Shields are a part of your God Arc that is used to defend or absorb damage from Aragami attacks. There are 3 types of Shields found in all God Eater Games. The Bucklers have the quickest deploy time but absorb the least damage Aragami deal. Shields have 3/4 deploy time and absorb 3/4 of the damage taken from Aragami. Tower Shields have the slowest deploy time but absorb the most damage.
